Summer School 2023 - Pre-Course Information

We are all very excited to get another Buckswood Overseas Summer School (BOSS) course underway next weekend, and look forward to welcoming students from all around the world to our beautiful campus.

On Tuesday (20th June) we held a pre-arrival meeting on Zoom which was very well attended with over 100 people joining us. During the meeting, we provided mainly "pre-course" information such as what to bring, arriving at the airport, arriving at school and more, and we would like to share this information here for those who were unable to attend. Below, you can also find a recording of the meeting in case you were unable to attend or should you wish to watch it again.

What to Bring We have already sent out our student guide containing information regarding this and more but as a reminder, we recommend that all students bring:

  • Normal clothes – whatever you wear in your day-to-day lives

  • Sports clothes – for whatever sports you are interested in. We will be offering a lot of sports

  • Nice clothes – for discos!

  • Swimming costume – we have a pool and may visit the beach. Not at Easter though!

  • Toiletries and towel – to wash!

  • Pyjamas/relaxing clothes – to sleep and relax!

  • A waterproof coat – incase it rains!

  • For our Spring Course - warm clothes, warm coat, hat, scarf, gloves, waterproofs

  • A phone charger

  • An adapter for UK electrical sockets (they’re different!)

  • A water bottle

  • Sun protection cream

It is very, very important that all students bring a water bottle. We used to give students water bottles but as they were all the same, students would never know which one was theirs and lose them. If you bring your own water bottle, you will know that it is yours and we hope that you will take better care of it! Of course, it also helps to protect the environment as we will be using less plastic. What Not to Bring

Please do not bring any medication to school unless it has been prescribed by a doctor. The reason for this is safety. We have every type of medication in our office to help you if you do not feel well and we are more than happy to help you. Money

It is very rare to use cash in the UK these days and in fact, not a lot of places accept cash. Therefore, and also for ease and safety, we recommend that students bring minimal cash and instead use a card for payments. Arriving If you are travelling directly to school with your parents or guardians, please note that check in time is between 1pm and 6pm. If we are meeting you at the airport, a member of our team will be waiting for you. Please take

your time and do not worry at the airport, we will be waiting for you. There is no rush.

  • When you leave the plane head to passport control

  • After passport control, collect your luggage and pass through the green "nothing to declare door"

  • Look for a sign with your name or that says "BOSS", if you cannot see a sign, do not worry and call +447749096168 or +447596609400

At school you will be welcomed by a member of our team who will help you to settle in and get you started with your arrival tasks. Students will be arriving throughout the day so it might seem quiet if you arrive early but by the end of the day we will have over 100 people at school. For now, that is everything that you need to know and once you are at school, we will provide you with more information in our Welcome Assembly on Sunday night! Have a safe journey and we look forward to seeing you soon!
